145 Central Park North - Architecture & Construction by GLUCK+

A rare opportunity to complete the street wall around Central Park inspired this ground-up residential development, adding to the rich history of unique moments along the park’s perimeter. The building’s façade addresses its 13-story height in a context of early twentieth century six-story buildings by aggregating floor levels in increasing size, thereby creating a reading of a smaller non-repetitive façade. A syncopated ground floor of striated stone and glass support the scale of the pedestrian. The highly articulated surface of the middle level floors with deep bronze profiles relate to the height, rhythm and texture of the neighboring residential buildings from the 1930s create the illusion of the more traditional tripartite scheme of the neighbors including the iconic cornice line.

“Our goal was to create a building that is worthy of its place in the city and has the depth and richness of iconic buildings that surround the park, while being a building of its time that can endure far into the future”

- Thomas Gluck, GLUCK+ Principal

The uppermost floors are wrapped with a taut all glass skin which reflects the sky minimizing the perceived bulk of the building. The shallow lot allows floor-through apartments to optimize the views out over the park as well as north over upper Manhattan and reduces the extent of interior hallways affording each apartment entry with a sense of privacy and individualization. All 37 apartments have a living room with stunning views on the Park overlooking the highest point in the city. Inside, the white oak flooring continues up to clad the windows, framing views of the park greenery with the natural warmer material of wood; a feature that highlights the attention to craft and detail possible with the architect who is also responsible for the construction.
