Jules Gregory Designed New Hope Residence

Notable for its rarity, pedigree and quality, this Jules Gregory-designed, Mid-Century Modern residence is like no other home in Bucks County. With more than a passing resemblance to the “Swiss Miss” A-frame houses of Palm Springs, this 1958 brick and glass house is a pioneering design for our area, exciting and dramatic, sophisticated and serene. Wrapped in glass and overlooking hundreds of acres of preserved Buckingham Township farmland, this residence has undergone a careful expansion and 360-degree renovation overseen by professional designers who worked their magic to turn it into a sexy chalet-esque house that embodies their philosophy of “clean, crisp, comfortable modern.” This is not your parents’ Mid-Century house.

The designers integrated quality fixtures and finishes along with incredibly smart space planning. Strikingly white with gloss-black hardwood floors, the interiors exude clean simplicity. An open floor plan prevails in the original core of the house with “rooms” designated by seating areas, a fireplace, lighting, and a wet bar with custom cabinetry, all under a vaulted ceiling with a wall of glass and those magnetic views. This is, as photographer Slim Aarons might say, the sort of home one might imagine attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places.

The kitchen is in the heart of the house. Chef’s and those who prefer to hire them will want for nothing with a 15.5-foot island, custom cabinetry everywhere, two of everything in the way of Wolf, Bosch and Sub-Zero appliances, a polished stainless steel ventilation hood and Quartz countertops finished with waterfall edges. The kitchen is open to the family room, yet another carefully considered space lined in windows, welcoming with generous seating, a fireplace, custom shelving and an office area with custom desks that blend perfectly with the home’s aesthetic.

True to one of Mid-Century Modernism’s core ideas, all of these rooms access a rear patio. There, a bar, barbecue area, built-in firepit and plenty of seating here and by the pool accommodate warm-weather gatherings. Private guest quarters include two en suite bedrooms at one end of the house, both with all-new Quartz and marble bathrooms, walk-in closets and other amenities. The main bedroom suite is designed to be closed off from the more public areas of the house. Soak in the tub while taking in a stunning country view; an oversized walk-in shower is finished in bookmatched Quartz slabs; the custom double vanity has many extra features built in. The dressing room and closet are the size of a small boutique and provide excellent storage. The bedroom itself accesses the rear patio and so enjoys the prized view. Power drapes here and in all of the bedrooms create total darkness and privacy. Created by designers for designers, this Modernist gem overwhelms with a long list of amenities best experienced in person.

Some of the most critical include a whole-house generator; a 2+ car garage with additional storage; a deluxe laundry room; whole-house audio that extends outside to both the front and back of the house; custom storage throughout; custom lighting; nine skylights; water features along the front façade and a location with classical Bucks County views.
