This Mountain Modern style residence incorporates a blend of contemporary architectural elements along with traditional alpine form. The owners couldn’t decide what style of house they wanted—a more traditional expression or a more modern home—so we intentionally blurred the lines to achieve this whimsical and balanced design. The homesite provides spectacular green belt views, which became a driving force in the architectural response.

Through precision-driven site analysis, the design capitalized on these green belt views with careful orientation and configuration of the home. By doing so, we created areas of unique privacy, especially at the spa area, where enclosure and openness are thoughtfully balanced. A large roof overhang extends protection to the main patio, creating transitional zones that blur the boundary between interior and exterior living while responding to alpine climate conditions.

To further distinguish the home, we developed a three-dimensional siding design using reclaimed materials. This reclaimed material not only enriches the architectural language but also significantly lowers the project’s carbon footprint. The siding is highlighted by mosaic steel design elements, introducing texture and contrast. Steel was strategically used in locations typically expressed in stone, maintaining visual strength while keeping project costs down.

The interior palette was intentionally developed to harmonize with the surrounding forest rather than contrast it. Natural tones and textures reflect the weathered character of the forest and stone, allowing each room to feel like an extension of the outdoors. The open great room, defined by exposed structural elements, serves as the social heart of the home—a volumetric space where light filters through expansive glazing and reflects off warm timber surfaces.
In the end, an elegant structure stands out among Martis Camp cabin sites, embodying a thoughtful balance between Mountain Modern clarity and timeless alpine character.
