Perched above the Yarra River in Melbourne, Australia, Como Terraces by Carr presents apartment living through a distinctly residential lens. Calm, tactile and highly resolved, the interiors are conceived not simply as spaces to occupy, but as environments shaped around the experience of living.
Throughout the residence, this approach is expressed through a careful tension between strength and softness. Clean architectural lines establish order and permanence, while natural stone, timber, textiles and finely considered objects introduce warmth and intimacy. Lighting and furniture by Articolo Studios play an integral role in this dialogue, appearing throughout the entry, dining, kitchen and living spaces as sculptural elements in their own right.
The palette is restrained and tonal. Pale oak joinery extends almost seamlessly from floor to ceiling, travertine forms the monolithic kitchen island, and warm neutral walls create a quiet backdrop for dark metal detailing. Against these surfaces, Articolo’s pieces offer moments of contrast and gentle interruption.
At the entry, the Double Swivel Wall Sconce sits alongside an exceptionally large pivot steel-framed door. Carr’s design for Como Terraces demonstrates the impact of restraint: materials are allowed space to register, objects are selected with purpose, and illumination is considered as carefully as form.
