Go outside, go offline! | Ivo Nijboer

Do you know that feeling of being by the water with your fishing rod, surrounded by complete tranquility? If not, you should definitely give it a try. I strongly believe in the positive impact of fishing on our mental health and want to inspire others to start this wonderful hobby.

That's why I set up BIVoutdoor.com and Fishing-trip.com.

I grew up with a fishing rod in my hand. My passion for fishing probably began with my grandfather, whose bamboo rod hung from the gutter. Although I didn't fish with him often, I did so regularly with my brother, who was a major catalyst for my passion.

Besides the joy I found in fishing, the sport helped me through a difficult time. In my youth, I had to make an important choice: play soccer on Sundays or go fishing. Ultimately, I chose fishing, which turned out to be a blessing when I had to stop playing soccer at 18 due to a malignant tumor in my knee. Thanks to the support of friends, I could continue fishing, which brought me peace and positive energy.

Fishing is more than casting a line

Fishing and being outdoors is much more to me than just casting a line and catching a fish. It's a way to relax and recover mentally. Unfortunately, the sport of fishing is under pressure worldwide due to negative perceptions, but now more than ever, I feel the need to make my voice heard. Since 2006, I have been actively involved in fishing, both professionally and voluntarily, and I want to show that there are many positive aspects to fishing. Love for animals is paramount for me and other anglers and outdoor enthusiasts. Experiencing the tranquility of nature doesn't mean we consciously disturb it.

The importance of knowledge sharing

Knowledge sharing is essential for a positive fishing and outdoor experience. In the Netherlands, for example, it’s easy to join a fishing club and get a fishing permit, but that doesn’t mean you know how to fish responsibly. By helping and encouraging new anglers, I contribute to a healthy fish population and a future for the sport of fishing.

That’s why Bart and I founded BIVoutdoor.com. It’s a central point where outdoor enthusiasts can find concrete information and advice. BIVoutdoor.com welcomes about 10,000 visitors daily, with page views even reaching up to 20,000 per day. This shows there is a great need for knowledge and information about the outdoors. How wonderful is it, for instance, to go on an offline vacation?

Fishing-trip.com is the new website I’m setting up to inform local anglers worldwide about fishing opportunities nearby. If you have local information about fishing spots and possibilities in your area, share it with me and help develop this platform!

Stronger together

I hope outdoor enthusiasts and local anglers will join forces to share knowledge with BIVoutdoor.com and Fishing-trip.com. Together, we can give new anglers and outdoor lovers the confidence they need to make fishing a lasting hobby. Even if our collective efforts help just one person experience more peace and feel mentally better through fishing, my mission is accomplished!

Join us and share your knowledge

Your input is valuable. Share your knowledge and experience with BIVoutdoor.com and help portray fishing in a positive light. Together, we can ensure that fishing remains not only a hobby but also a source of peace and joy for many.

Visit us at BIVoutdoor.com and discover how you can contribute. For more outdoor adventures, keep an eye on Fishing-trip.com as this platform takes shape in the coming time.

Let’s explore the outdoors together and inspire others to go outside!
