Refreshing a once heavy coastal Mediterranean interior into a modern Santa Barbara retreat. A North Palm Beach 4,300-square-foot residence was completed by JMA Interior Design. Empty nesters seeking a sophisticated yet welcoming home with ample space for visiting grandchildren. Featuring four bedrooms and four bathrooms, the design reflects a refined reinterpretation of Santa Barbara coastal living through a fresh contemporary lens.

JMA Interior Design streamlined the interior architecture by selectively minimizing many of the original arches while thoughtfully preserving key Mediterranean details to retain warmth and authenticity. The result is a harmonious balance of contemporary simplicity and understated charm, where layered textures, nuanced tones, and carefully curated materials create depth, softness, and a sense of effortless, livable luxury.
Standout design features throughout the home include cabinetry-integrated hidden doors leading to the pantry and guest suite off the great room, enhancing the sense of openness while discreetly concealing secondary spaces. The kitchen is anchored by oversized Kelly Wearstler “Cleo” pendants and a partial waterfall-edge island that reinforces the home’s clean architectural language. A dramatic Phillip Jeffries “Arboretum” mural wallpaper introduces texture and artistry, complemented by curated works from artists Holli Addi and Mura Segal, sourced through Addison Gallery, located in Palm Beach Gardens.

Adding a personal layer to the design, the clients’ antique mahogany bar was reimagined with a soft neutral exterior, while the interior was transformed with a rich plum finish and geometric Phillip Jeffries wallcovering, creating a bold pop of color and renewed character.
