Aerie\noun. 1: the nest of a bird on a cliff or a mountain top. 2: an elevated and often secluded dwelling, structure, or position.

This 3,800-square-foot home was designed for the architect’s brother and his wife. The couple shared a common dream to build a home. Situated in an urban neighborhood a few blocks from Kirkland’s city center, the site has territorial views of Lake Washington from the upper floor.

The home is intended to be open and light, a breath of fresh air like Aree. The two-story entry court connects and opens the house to views and light. The reflecting pool is experienced from different spaces with reflection and tranquility. A series of layered screens filter the suburban view while the territorial view is opened to an upper terrace.
