For over 20 years, Perfect Moment has been creating skiwear for the most extreme skiers with a focus on performance garments and statement designs. The luxury fashion and sportswear brand produces retro- inspired and technical clothing with a full range of winter ski and summer beach and surf wear. Perfect Moment offers high performance lifestyle clothing with a core emphasis on women’s skiwear, kid’s skiwear, and men’s skiwear that can be worn on and off the slopes, designed for fashion, form, and function.
The adventure started in the mountains of Chamonix in 1984 with a vision from famed extreme sports filmmaker and professional skier, Thierry Donard, who designed apparel for his team of expert freeride skiers and surfers for his film production company, La Nuit de la Glisse. Donard used his personal experience to create designs that were characterized by quality, style and performance, and focused on the ultimate goal of every athlete: to experience that Perfect Moment.
In 2010, the headquarters were brought over to London after Jane and Max Gottschalk took over ownership of the brand. The brand’s mission has been to provide the ultimate activewear clothing for snow and beach lovers alike. The logo, placed proudly on all Perfect Moment garments, is inspired by the Northern Star that represents nature’s compass, a key tool for any adventurer, and a guiding celestial light for early explorers to get safely home. It is also the stamp of quality that symbolizes technically exceptional, practical, and stylish clothing that is capable of meeting the robust demands of a freerider.
Performance is at the forefront of Perfect Moment’s statement designs incorporating the industry’s leading technical fabrics into each Perfect Moment garment and combined with vivid and bold color palettes that blend from one season to the next. Perfect Moment understands the demands made on its activewear and skiwear and vigorously tests materials challenging insulation and warmth, breathability and durability, and ensuring an optimal athletic performance and an exceptional fit. Each garment is built to ensure peak performance in action and a fashion forward approach to looking great.
The brand recently announced that Priyanka Chopra, the award-winning actor, producer, philanthropist, activist, and entrepreneur, and Nick Jonas, the multi-platinum and Grammy-nominated recording artist, song-writer and actor, have joined Perfect Moment as investors. They will play a substantial role as the brand, best known for its colorful and fashion forward skiwear, expands globally over the coming years. It is the first time the couple have entered into a business brand partnership together. It will allow them to share their passion for skiing, sport and the outdoors with consumers and their audiences.
Jane Gottschalk is the Creative Director and Chief Branding Officer of Perfect Moment, a high-performance lifestyle apparel brand founded in Chamonix over 30 years ago by French sports filmmaker and professional skier Thierry Donard. Gottschalk began her career in private client stockbroking, then worked in hedge fund management. She is also the co-founder of Jax Coco, the premium coconut water brand established in Hong Kong in 2012 alongside her husband Max Gottschalk, and a director of Ohso probiotic chocolate.
Gottschalk invested in Perfect Moment in 2010, then fully acquired the business in 2013 moving the headquarters from Chamonix to Hong Kong where she resided at the time. Under her direction, Perfect Moment assembled a design team in Shanghai, reinvigorating the heritage brand with retro spirit and a fashion-led aesthetic, as well as improving fit while maintaining its best-in-class functional materials, eventually launching surfwear and swimwear to its product categories. Today the brand is headquartered in London and produces skiwear, surfwear and lifestyle pieces for men, women and children.
A self-professed tomboy, Gottschalk’s inclusive approach at Perfect Moment has been shaped by her love of travel, informed by a peripatetic childhood spent experiencing different cultures. Born in Kuala Lumpur, she spent her early childhood in Malaysia and India. As a teenager she attended schools in England and Switzerland, studied at university in Germany, lived in Zurich and London, then enjoyed a spell with her young family in Hong Kong before returning to London. When Jane and her husband met Thierry Donard and were instantly energized by the retro-inflected technical apparel he was creating for the expert freeride skiers and surfers he captured as a director and producer for his film production company, La Nuit de la Glisse. With designs that were characterized by quality and performance as well as style, Donard called the apparel line ‘Perfect Moment’ in honor of the athletes focused on a common goal: to find their perfect wave, or their perfect snow line, and to experience their perfect moment.
“I think it’s always important to adopt a holistic approach: we’ve also thought a lot about creating designs that stand the test of time, looking to retro references rather than fleeting trends, and investing in quality,” said Jane Gottschalk.
Perfect Moment continues to focus on Sustainability as a significant priority in working towards a more earth-friendly future. Fabric innovation is a key focus, and in a recent swimwear capsule, the brand used fabrics such as ECONYL and ECOWAVE, no-waste materials produced with recycled yarns from plastic bottles and waste from the sea. The knitwear line makes use of responsibly-sourced Merino wool, which is a natural material that is biodegradable and free of microplastics.
Gottschalk currently lives in London with her husband and their five children. She oversees creative direction and brand identity at Perfect Moment, liaising with the design team in Shanghai, the production team in Hong Kong, and the sales, marketing and press teams in London.
The Perfect Moment Autumn / Winter ’22 collection celebrates Perfect Moment as not only a skiwear brand, but the perfect lifestyle offering a range of pieces to take you from the slopes to the Après bars, and from the city to a countryside escape.
The collection introduces a new faux fur capsule along with new fabrics and patterns for the season, such as bright pop colors - like neon yellows and pinks, high shine fabrics, and a striking pastel kaleidoscope design, while expanding the sports leather capsule.
The collection is inspired by good times with friends, weekend getaways in the snow, relaxing on sun-filled balconies, and long lunches on the terrace with your best friends. This season is about making and sharing perfect moments.
Perfect Moment has created a product line that fits seamlessly into the luxury end of the winter, outerwear, swim and surf market.
