Alexa Serowik & Noah Dobson Tie the Knot in Newport

On July 1, NASCAR reporter Alexa Serowik and NHL defenseman Noah Dobson exchanged vows at the historic St. Mary’s Church in Newport, RI, then celebrated with loved ones at Rosecliff Mansion. The Gilded Age estate set the tone for the Canada Day celebration, with rich, romantic reds inspired by the venue’s blooms and dramatic details that echoed the grandeur of the iconic mansion. From the early days of their relationship to the stunning Newport celebration, Alexa reflects on her journey with Noah.

Let’s start at the beginning – how did you and Noah first meet?

We met on the dating app Raya. When we matched, we were both on planes flying home to our respective cities, so fate gave us a few uninterrupted hours to chat. From that moment on, we never stopped talking. For weeks, we were constantly on the phone and FaceTiming each other, until I finally visited him in New York for one of his games (he was playing for the Islanders at the time). After that, the rest was history!

When did you realize he was “the one,” and how did the proposal unfold?

I knew he was the one pretty early on. Noah invited me after his season to take a trip to San Diego. That summer after meeting in January we spent a lot of time with our families – mine in Boston and his in Canada. His hometown of Prince Edward Island (PEI) is a really special place for us and we love spending time there. Last summer, on a typical July Monday, Noah asked me to get ice cream with him. Of course, I agreed, and we headed to one of our favorite beaches to dig in. It was sunset, and before I knew it, Noah was down on one knee asking me to marry him! It was so unexpected but absolutely perfect. 

What drew you to Newport, and why did you choose Rosecliff Manor?

Growing up in New England, Newport has always been one of my favorite spots – it’s absolutely stunning. One of my first reporting gigs was actually at Rosecliff and I’ve been in love with it ever since. Newport also made the most sense logistically, with most of our family and friends being from Canada, New England, and New York. 

Tell us about your ceremony – what moments stand out most?

Noah and I are both Catholic, so having our ceremony in a catholic church was very important to us. We chose St. Mary’s Church in Newport, a historic and beautiful venue famously known as the site where JFK and Jackie O were married. The ceremony felt deeply personal and sacred– especially since my family friend and priest, Father John Arens, officiated, and Todd Angilly, a trained opera singer and the Boston Bruins anthem singer, performed during the service. Walking down the aisle with my dad  and then seeing Noah was so special. He wiped away my tears of joy when I got to him at the alter. 

Looking back, what was your favorite part of the day?

I loved every moment of it – from the start of the celebration (which even included golf & boating) to spending time with family and close friends at the rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, and welcome party. The actual wedding day was beyond my wildest dreams. It was a fairytale. If I really had to pick I’d say my favorite part was Noah. He was gracious and loving. We had a blast singing and dancing with our friends and families. He was the best groom! 

Were there any special or personal details you incorporated that made the celebration feel uniquely yours?

I was a theater major in college, so I tend to lean towards things that are a bit dramatic! We had incredible performances ranging from a 70s band to a Boston club DJ and even some moving theatrical statues. It was so fun and very “me.” Another personal touch was also the date – 8 is our lucky number and July 1 (7/1) being Canada Day for Noah made it even more meaningful. 

How did you choose your wedding dress and bridal look?

For the ceremony I wanted something more classic and traditional. I went for a Rita Vinieris Rivini collection A-line gown with floral detailing throughout and elegant elbow length gloves. During the reception I changed into a glittering Galia Lahav gown – the perfect party dress! For the welcome party I wore black Vera Wang bridal couture. All three gowns were incredibly beautiful. 

What’s next for you and Noah as you start this new chapter together?

A few days before our wedding Noah was traded from the New York Islanders to the Montreal Canadiens. We loved NY and now we are so excited to start our new chapter in Montreal. We have been building a home on PEI and purchased a home in Montreal since Noah signed a long term contract. After leaving our NY home, we are so excited to be settled. We can’t wait to make so many new memories and begin our own family traditions in our new homes.
