Chris Moore Is Preserving Palatka, Florida's Historic Character, One Property at a Time

Chris Moore's approach to real estate has always started with the same question: what does this property actually deserve? For a growing number of homes in Putnam County, Florida, the answer isn't a teardown or a rushed flip; it's a careful restoration that respects what made the house special in the first place.

Moore is the founder of We Buy Any House In Florida, a veteran-owned, Orange Park-based real estate company serving Jacksonville and Northeast Florida. While much of his business is built around fast, as-is purchases for sellers who need a quick and simple exit, Moore has also built a reputation for a different kind of project: buying character-rich, older homes and bringing them back to life instead of stripping them down for the fastest possible resale.

A Signature Project in Palatka

That approach is on full display at 621 S 18th Street in Palatka, a 1940-built bungalow Moore took on with historic preservation as a guiding principle rather than an afterthought. Rather than gutting the property for the fastest possible turnaround, the renovation kept the home's original bones intact: the full-width front porch and its roofline, the decorative wood corner brackets under the eaves, the fluted door surround framing the entry, and the original window openings all remain exactly where they've always been. The mature oaks and Spanish moss shading the lot were left untouched.

Layered over that preserved structure is a crisp, high-contrast finish: white lap siding set against matte black trim, posts, shutters, and a new paneled front door, with black gooseneck sconces flanking the entry. The porch got fresh flooring and brick-accented steps, the walkway and landscaping were redone with mulched beds and ornamental plantings, and small American flags dot the entry garden, a fitting touch for a project completed by a veteran-owned company.

"This one was a little different for me," Moore said of the Palatka project. "Most of the houses I buy, the story is really about the seller, a family in a hard spot, a timeline that doesn't work for a normal sale. This one, I walked in and just saw an old Palatka bungalow that still had all its bones. Those porch brackets, that door surround, the way the porch wraps the front, you don't get that with new construction. Stripping it out to save a few weeks didn't sit right with me. So we kept what made the house what it was and built the finish around it instead of over it."

The result spoke for itself. Once the renovation was complete and the home was staged, it went under contract in just 48 hours, listed at $229,999 through Momentum Realty, a clear signal that thoughtful, historically-minded renovation work resonates with buyers in a market where character homes are increasingly rare.

A Decade of Reading Houses and the People In Them

Moore's eye for a property like this one didn't come out of nowhere. He spent eight years as a licensed Florida real estate agent with Momentum Realty before shifting his focus to direct cash purchases in 2022. Across nearly a decade in the business, he's closed 303 MLS transactions representing more than $79 million in real estate volume, spanning everything from first-time homebuyers to probate estates to short sales.

"What those transactions taught me is that real estate isn't really about houses," Moore has said of that stretch of his career. "It's about the people in them, the decisions they're facing, and the honest guidance they deserve."

That range, first-time buyers, investment properties, inherited homes moving through probate, gave him a working sense of which properties are genuinely worth saving and which aren't, a distinction that shaped how he approached 621 S 18th Street.

Investment Philosophy

Moore's willingness to take on both fast, as-is transactions and hands-on restoration projects reflects a philosophy he's been vocal about since founding his company: not every property, and not every seller, needs the same solution. Some homeowners need speed and simplicity. Others own a piece of a town's history that deserves a second chapter instead of a bulldozer.

Background

Moore is a veteran, and his company, We Buy Any House In Florida, is veteran-owned. Based in Orange Park, the company serves homeowners across Jacksonville, Clay County, Duval County, and the surrounding Northeast Florida region. In the years since starting the company, Moore has worked with families navigating foreclosure, divorce, inherited and probate property, landlord burnout, storm and fire damage, and relocations on tight timelines, situations he says taught him as much about people as they did about real estate.

"Too many national cash buyers treat real estate like a commodity," Moore has said. "When you've walked through 300-plus homes, you start to see patterns. You understand what things are actually worth, what situations are fixable, and when someone genuinely needs help versus when they just need options."

On a Personal Note

Moore's service background shows up in how he runs the business as much as anywhere else, a straightforward, show-up-and-do-the-work approach that doesn't leave much room for high-pressure sales tactics. Projects like 621 S 18th Street are the ones he tends to talk about the longest: not the biggest deals or the fastest closings, but the houses worth taking the extra time to get right.
