High Peak Tents: The Elegance They Add to Outdoor Events

High-peak or cross-cable tents with ample interiors are marquees in a class of their own.

And it is not the avant-garde water-resistant nylon, nor breathable cotton designs that make them optimal for sunny days. Nor is it not the variety of colors, sizes, and shapes they are available in–but rather their towering peaks that have become common sights at weddings, upmarket functions, and in-demand outdoor gatherings.

It is the elegant visual signature cast by the soaring roofs of the high peak tents that adds an undeniable sophistication to any setting for a variety of reasons, some of which are:

Dramatic Appearance

The peaked roofs are salient features and by standing out against the sky, they capture the passerby’s attention.

From the outside, the design compounds the viewer's perception of its height thus creating the impression - along with that of elegance and sophistication - of grandeur while stirring up a sense of anticipation in arriving guests from the first time they see it.

Elegant but Practical

Just because they are more attractive than the average high occupancy pole tent or marquee, it does not mean that high-peak tents are difficult to erect. Despite its unique appearance, it comprises an array of minimalistic elements that define it as simplistic by design.

High-peak tents also tend to be lighter and thus relatively easier to transport and erect, and unlike their pole tent counterparts, have no center pole.

Why then, you might ask, does it have a peak?

The columns holding up the peaks rest on tensioned cross-members which are situated at about ceiling height. In doing so, they eradicate the need for the pesky impediment to vision which occurs in the form of a center pole in other kinds of tents.

Perfect for Custom Decor

The high-peak tent’s open and spacious interior provides ample space for decor. Cascading drapes with combined lighting, hanging lanterns, and/or green or floral arrangements can be used to decorate or light the interior.

Depending on the function, a variety of themes and colors along with carpets and furniture like chairs and tables can be arranged in the tent as required (once again) thanks to the absence of a center pole.

Spacious and Airy

High-peak tents often use light-colored materials, such as white nylon or cotton, which reflect ambient light on the inside while deflecting the sun’s rays from the outside.

The high roofs allow air movement throughout the structure and cross-ventilation when the tents have no side walls.

On pleasant days, this feature will allow guests freedom of movement in and out of the temporary structure without losing sight of what is happening inside it.

The absence of a center pole in the high-peak tent provides yet another benefit: It allows for unobstructed vision especially when there is a focal point like a stage for a wedding, live music, or lectern.

Available in Different Styles and Formats

To accommodate the needs of different functions, the high-peak tent is available in different sizes and comes with twin or single-peaks.

Tent company Everything Entertainment, for example, offers versions of the tent that accommodate anywhere between 40 to 300 seated people, a DJ, and dance floors.

High-peak tents can be accessorized with tent liners, leg drapes, safety features like fire extinguisher stands, sidewalls with perspex windows, and even glass doors which come in handy on cold days.

They are also available in hexagon, octagon, decagon, and dodecagon shapes.

If the high-peak tent does have its sides attached or is being used on cold days, heating and air conditioning can be installed as needed.

Timeless Appeal

The design of high-peak tents is a classic one. It evokes a sense of tradition and timelessness that hails from British royalty and military events, as can be seen in paintings depicting Military encampments in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The tradition has held and while tents in military situations have evolved somewhat the high-peaked tent seems to have found itself a new purpose providing shelter at festive functions rather than those of war.

Today, they work equally well in many settings whether private or commercial, and aside from their practical purposes, they are favored because they send a clear message of class in any environment.

Conclusion

Beyond their aesthetics, high-peak tents are also highly functional. Their steep roof design helps them shed rain and snow, while their aerodynamic shape gives them impressive resistance to wind when set up correctly.

Unlike the large marquees used for big events like Oktoberfest, the curved lines, high ceilings, and unobstructed views provided by high-peak tents are available in smaller and more versatile options.

They are easy to move, can be assembled by relatively few people making them practical for personal ownership and use and a favorite for domestic yet sophisticated outdoor functions
