Modern times aren't for the sensitive souls. Even though they do come with a variety of different benefits, the truth is that it is fast-paced, too, and at times, it can be challenging to keep up with everything it brings.

An average person has a lot of things on their plate. They need to juggle so much stuff simultaneously, like finances, family-related obligations, deadlines, and many other things that can seriously take a toll on a person’s mental health.

And in these instances, some people tend to turn to substance abuse, perceiving it as a solution to their issues. Unfortunately, many reports have proven that there's a link between these two, and today's article will further explore this connection.

It’s A Temporary “Solution” That Can Cause Permanent Damage

As stated in the beginning, many people who are under a lot of stress and pressure perceive drugs and/or alcohol as a solution that's going to make their problems go away. What a lot of them do not get is that by doing so, they are only making things worse, because they are adding another problem to the existing ones – addiction.

And there’s no need to remind you how dangerous addiction can be. Now, according to founder Luke Peck (who has been helping people for many, many years), when someone is dealing with chronic stress, and they conclude that there aren't any ways to cope with it, they typically turn to various substances. The most common ones include drugs, stimulants, opioids, etc.

Even though they may find a temporary relief during consumption, what they need to remember is that this relief will eventually vanish, their bodies will become resistant to the amount of opioids they've used, and then they'll need to increase it in order to feel "good" again. That's how addiction works in a nutshell.

What Are The Biggest Causes Of Stress?

When you live in a world where stressful things are constantly lurking around the corner, it can be hard to find something that isn't too stressful. However, certain causes are pretty impactful, and they usually cause substance abuse. This refers to:

  1. Serious illness

  2. Death of a loved one

  3. Financial problems

  4. Divorce

  5. Legal issues

  6. Physical or mental abuse

There Are Always Better Solutions To Deal With Stress!

Now, you may not think that there’s anything else that’s as “effective” as drugs or alcohol, but trust us when we say, anything is better than that. Fortunately, there are so many spectacular, yet healthy ways to cope with stress, and below are a few that will be mentioned:

  • Psychotherapy – If you do not have anyone to turn to, you should seek professional help, because, after all, these people are here not only to treat all kinds of mental health problems, but to be an amazing support system.

  • Meditation and yoga – It has been proven numerous times before that both of them are perfect for stress reduction.

  • Exercising – A great stress reliever.

Hardly anyone leads a stress-free life, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t ways to make your life better under any circumstances. Whatever you are going through right now, remember that no substance will ever make a permanent positive change. It is nothing but a wolf in sheep's clothing.
