The Origin (1894): Named after trapper Davey Jackson, the “Hole” was a high-altitude sanctuary for mountain men and outlaws. It was a place where “justice” was handled privately and the winters were a test of survival.

The 70s & 80s (Cowboy Grit)
The “Million Dollar Cowboy Bar” era. It was a town of saddles for barstools and “steep and deep” skiing for purists only. Celebrities like Harrison Ford arrived in search of true anonymity, blending into a community that valued ranching as much as powder.

The 90s (The Conservation Stronghold)
As wealth flooded the valley, the community made a strategic pivot toward extreme conservation. By limiting development, they inadvertently created one of the most exclusive real estate markets in history, where a “view of the Tetons” became the ultimate global trophy.

Present Day (The Billionaire’s Safe Haven)
Jackson is now the wealthiest county in the U.S. It serves as a sovereign tax-haven for the ultra-affluent, offering a unique blend of “Old West” aesthetics and private-equity power. Jackson Hole remains the only place where a billionaire in a Stetson is just another local.
