The McLaren GT is McLaren Automotive’s take on a grand tourer. And McLaren’s take on a GT is that they do not have to be slow and heavy. Underneath the sleek, yet subdued exterior, is the monster of a twin-turbo V8 engine producing 612 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. All that power and the fact that the car only ways 3,384lbs, leads to the GT accelerating from 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds.
But with the McLaren GT, the focus is not solely on performance. The car was designed for the everyday life. Which is why you’ll find thoughtful design and lifestyle elements throughout both the exterior and interior of the vehicle’s design. The McLaren GT benefits extensively from extensive time in the wind tunnel and follows the same ‘form follows function’ design philosophy that helped to create the McLaren Speedtail. From this, McLaren integrated a fixed rear spoiler to the GT. This reduces airflow wrapping around the rear of the car, and the result is improved aero efficiency, reduced drag and increasing high-speed stability. For the same aerodynamic reasons, the trailing edges of the rear fenders have been pushed wider.
Taking a seat inside the cabin, the feeling is one of modern, progressive luxury. The design approach to the interior of the McLaren GT highlights a feeling of supple elegance, mirroring an exterior that forgoes the traditional visual bulk of a grand tourer. The materials used throughout – from the leathers to the machined switchgear – is that of high quality, reinforcing the luxurious ambiance. No detail has been overlooked. Particular attention has been paid to the seats, enabling owners to undertake long journeys in the supreme comfort expected of a true grand tourer.
A grand tourer is only as good as the volume of cargo it holds. And with over 20 cubic feet cargo capacity between the front trunk and the rear luggage bay. The luggage bay is large enough to accommodate either a golf bag or ski bag, leaving plenty of room in the front trunk for two overnight bags. The rear luggage bay can be trimmed in McLaren’s new, innovative and highly durable, but beautiful SuperFabric. What makes the fabric so super? The innovative woven fabric is infused with a layer of tiny armored guard plates, providing increased resistance to stains, cuts, nicks and abrasions, as well as being breathable, easy to clean and quick to dry.
