Cincinnati, Ohio, might not be the first city that comes to mind when thinking of an upscale boutique hotel. However, The Lytle Park Hotel, part of the Autograph Collection, is shifting people’s thinking. This is a hotel with a rich history that deserves your attention. It was once the home of a prominent general, William Lytle, and later a hotel for young women (Anna Louise Inn) commuting from rural areas while working in Cincinnati. The building has been preserved and restored into a beautiful, modern-day, high-end boutique hotel, with remnants of its past still present.

Timeless Appeal

Built in 1909, this regal property has long been a part of the fabric of the city’s history. Its design is reflective of the architecture of its time, with interiors that offer a mix of old-world sophistication and contemporary accents that give it a more refined finish. Perhaps the building’s history makes it a preferred destination for those seeking an upscale escape that is meticulously curated.

From the moment of arrival, a lot of emphasis is placed on making guests feel as welcome as possible, thus creating a personal connection that lingers long after their visit. While the neoclassical design looks appealing from the outside, it pairs effortlessly with modern upgrades that elevate its presence inside. One noticeable addition to the interior is a brass light fixture hanging over the lobby bar. This modern lighting features cascading glass that gives the appearance of rain falling through trees. The lobby’s trees, artwork, brass tree installations, and interior color palette were designed intentionally to evoke a park-like environment, reflective of the one just outside its doors.

Central Location Near Main Attractions

The location is also a large part of its appeal. While inconspicuously tucked away into a part of downtown landscape that is a destination location, many are familiar with it due to its historical value, most notably the presence of the Taft Museum of Art. It is another well-preserved building, built in 1820, that was once the home of Charles Phelps Taft, the brother of President William Howard Taft. Today, it stands as one of the city’s main attractions. It’s often a part of the guests’ visit, since the location is directly across the street, and visually tells the story of the home, past and present. Adjacent to the greenspace known as Lytle Park, the building is also within walking distance of nearby landmarks and venues (Aronoff Center for the Arts, streetcar line, and the scenic riverfront). With its tranquil scenery and city energy, it’s clear to see why so many flock here.

Defining Luxury in an Urban Setting

With just over 100 rooms and suites, The Lytle Park Hotel is distinctively chic and modern, combining heritage craftsmanship with modern-day elegance. Room windows perfectly sit as a frame to capture views of the mesmerizing skyline and iconic river, allowing visitors to enjoy unobstructed views of the city. The room and suite layouts are spacious with comfortable bedding complete with high-end linens, which is to be expected of a property of this caliber. Other features include HDTVs offering premium channels, bathrooms with spa-like amenities, and high-speed Wi-Fi, designed to resemble an urban retreat with everything within arm’s reach.

Culinary Excellence Through and Through

There is definitely a reason you may notice people frequently passing through the lobby, and it is usually due to the alluring, on-site dining venues. In some cases, the concierge may politely mention the names of nearby restaurants and suggest making reservations on behalf of travelers. At The Lytle Park Hotel, however, you’ll find all you want and need in the way of quick snacks, leisurely afternoon lunches, and succulent entrées at your fingertips. The team does a wonderful job of integrating its dining options into its overall sophisticated appeal.

Subito – Northern Italian Restaurant

At the heart of their dining choices is Subito, a charming Italian restaurant that attracts both locals and visitors. Its Northern Italian cuisine is perfectly prepared with seasonal ingredients, scratch sauces, homemade pasta, and select steaks expertly prepared under an infrared broiler. The menu also offers brick-oven pizzas, fresh seafood, and traditional antipasti, accompanied by a thoughtfully curated wine list. What enhanced my meal was just how attentive and knowledgeable the servers were. It was clear to me that they took great personal pride in the food they recommended, which made for a truly unforgettable occasion.

In addition to the memorable dining at Subito, The Lytle Tea Tradition available on weekends is a must. This lovely display of fine teas, scrumptious savory delicacies, handcrafted pastries, and seasonal confectionery is a favorite amongst many traveling to the Cincinnati area and is often the reason they return. The cozy ambiance makes you feel as though you are having afternoon tea at a friend’s home.

Vista Lytle Park Rooftop

A panoramic city view at sunset is one of the magical things to behold, which is why Vista Lytle Park attracts so much attention during the warmer months of the year. It is a spacious rooftop bar and lounge offering some of the most attractive views, across the river and beyond. Visitors gather here to celebrate special occasions while enjoying signature cocktails created by skilled mixologists and taking in the surrounding scenery. I enjoyed the peacefulness of the rooftop bar so much that I didn’t want to leave.

Hospitality as Art

There is so much more that defines the guest experience at The Lytle Park Hotel, including the intimate personal service offered. This is what made it seem as though I were staying with close friends. Members of the staff, whether the concierge or room attendant, provide a level of warmth and attentiveness that is intentional and not forced. When interacting with guests, they make sure they extend genuine care and service beyond what is expected. This is a type of service that is associated with a truly special boutique hotel, setting it apart from similar accommodations.

Leaving felt bittersweet, but it’s nice knowing that I am always welcome to return to The Lytle Park Hotel to make new and enduring memories.
