Located on the fifth and sixth floors of The St. Regis San Francisco, the newly renovated spa is designed to provide a tranquil retreat that captures the refined sophistication and nuance of the renowned hospitality brand while responding to its urban context. Circular motifs are integrated throughout the space, drawing inspiration from the architecture of the neighboring San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and complementing the aesthetic of the adjacent pool, while standing as a distinct, immersive experience of its own. The overall design refresh introduces organic warmth, softness, and material richness to the existing space, to deliver a serene and restorative environment for guests.

“The project has been an exciting journey, from initially being asked to pick a tile for the pool in 2015 to the completion of the spa in 2026. The project has always been driven by a desire to heighten the visitor experience with a calm and healing oasis.” TEF Design principal Paul Cooper shared.

Guests are welcomed into a reimagined Reception Lobby, located on the sixth floor across from the infinity pool, featuring upgraded retail amenities and Celebration Bar that serves as an inviting focal point. A large circular aperture – echoing the same feature in the pool room – provides a dramatic backdrop to the bar, framing views to the city outside. The Spa Lounge, opposite the elevator that takes guests to the treatment rooms on the fifth floor, was enhanced with warm wood paneling and an LED back-lit feature, as well as custom lounge furnishings. A new Himalayan Salt Room introduces a distinctive co-ed lounge amenity and an alternative to the upgraded men’s and women’s lounges.

Throughout the spa, finishes were refreshed to create a continuous, comforting experience, including textured wallcoverings – recalling the rich pattern language of a Klimt painting – in warm earth tones and plush custom broadloom carpeting.  Treatment rooms were upgraded with new storage millwork, dedicated handwashing sinks, and circular sconce lighting to support both functionality and ambiance. Locker rooms now feature rich wood finishes and enhanced storage, and the existing cedar wood sauna and eucalyptus steam rooms were fully refinished to deliver a renewed and heightened guest experience.

Together, these updates create a welcoming sanctuary that elevates the guest journey from arrival through departure, offering a warm, modern expression of wellness that aligns with the distinction of The St. Regis San Francisco.
