Loca Loka Tequila

At first blush, the idea of a tequila from the highlands of Mexico melded with the culture and creativity of India might seem an unlikely combination. But that improbable fusion is exactly what makes Loca Loka Tequila one of the more compelling tequila brands to emerge in recent years. Co-founded by Indian film star Rana Daggubati, musician Anirudh Ravichander, and entrepreneur Harsha Vadlamudi, the brand blends the Spanish word "loca" meaning crazy with the Sanskrit "loka," meaning world, to create a globally celebratory spirit rooted in cross-cultural storytelling.

Within the Indian cultural inspiration, the liquid itself is firmly rooted in Mexican tradition. Loca Loka tequilas are 100% additive-free, crafted from mature highland agave in Jalisco, Mexico, using ancient techniques. Each agave is picked by hand, then slow cooked in brick ovens and autoclaves to preserve the essence of the plant. The agaves used to make the tequila have aged for at least six years, giving them a higher sugar content and resulting in a better finished product.
Within the last 2 years, Loca Loka Tequila has received the following impressive competition results.
San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC) - Blanco (Gold Medal) and Reposado (Silver Medal)/2025 & Anejo (Gold Medal & 92 Points)/2026
New York International Spirits Competition (NYISC) - Reposado (Gold Medal)/2025 & Anejo (Gold Medal)/2026
2025 Beverage Testing Institute (BTI) - Blanco (Gold Medal/93 Points) & Reposado (Gold Medal/93 Points)
2026 London Spirits Competition (LSC) - Reposado (Gold Medal/92 Points) & Blanco (Silver Medal/88 Points)
The Blanco Tequila ($37.99) is unaged, showcasing the quality of the agave and the skill of the tequileros. The sweet flavor of cooked agave combines with a subtle earthiness and a smooth, prolonged finish. The expression blends the rounder, fruity flavors of cooked agave with the earthier, floral notes characteristic of highland agaves, the result of Jalisco's mineral-rich volcanic soils coming through clearly in the glass. Clean and expressive, the Blanco is equally at home in a classic margarita or sipped neat.

The Reposado Tequila ($49.99) is aged for 4-6 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels. The French oak imparts a rounded sweetness while the American oak contributes vanilla and peppery spice, both of which harmonize with the sweet, lightly vegetal and mineral notes of the cooked agave without overwhelming it. On the palate, expect almond and citrus alongside a sharper orange character, with sweetness lingering on the finish and a slight breadiness becoming cookie-like as the barrel influence continues to develop.

The Añejo Tequila ($69.99) is crafted from mature highland agave and positioned as an elevated, next-step expression after the Blanco and Reposado, designed to deepen the brand's narrative by layering longer barrel aging and complexity onto its signature balance of sweetness and volcanic minerality. Aged for one year in French and American oak brings forward warm aromas of vanilla, toasted oak, and caramel layered over the cooked agave core. On the palate, the agave remains present, joined by notes of dried fruit, baking spice, and soft cocoa — a sophisticated sipper that rewards patience.
With a portfolio now spanning all three core tequila expressions, Loca Loka Tequila has made good on its founding promise: premium, additive-free tequila with a story unlike anything else on the back bar.
