As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, renewed interest is turning toward the craftsmanship, agriculture, trade routes, and makers that helped shape the nation’s identity. Few modern spirits brands capture that sense of heritage quite like Veritable Distillery, a Connecticut-based producer creating premium bottles rooted in historical authenticity, refined production, and an uncommon commitment to transparency.

Founded with a simple but ambitious mission - to make exceptional spirits using genuine ingredients, traditional methods, and complete honesty - Veritable draws inspiration from 18th century New England, when spirits were shaped as much by regional agriculture and maritime trade as by technique. The result is a portfolio that feels both timeless and distinctly modern.
That philosophy is evident in every bottle. In an industry where ingredient disclosure remains surprisingly rare, Veritable voluntarily lists full ingredients and serving facts directly on its labels. For today’s increasingly discerning consumer, it offers something refreshing: premium spirits with nothing to hide. There are no artificial colors, synthetic flavorings, chemical stabilizers, or animal-based clarifiers.
For Finneas Pryor, transparency is inseparable from quality. “We’re inspired by a time when spirits were made simply, transparently, and with real care,” Pryor says. “We look to early American methods and ingredients not out of nostalgia, but because they still offer something meaningful today. As people become more thoughtful about what they drink and choose quality over quantity, we believe they deserve complete honesty about what’s in the bottle. Our goal is to create spirits with integrity that bring people together and tell a story in every glass.”
Veritable’s first core releases, Ship’s Bell Bourbon and Southwick’s American Gin, introduced drinkers to the company’s historically inspired approach. Ingredients once commonly traded through colonial New England ports helped shape the flavor profiles, connecting each spirit to the region’s coastal past. Traditional techniques, including open-top fermentation for whiskey and fractional distillation for gin, bring added nuance while honoring old-world craft.

Now, the company expands that vision with one of its most compelling releases yet: Southwick’s Navy Strength Gin. Unlike conventional gins made with neutral grain spirit, this expression begins with a base blend of barrel-aged and unaged rums, the dominant spirit of colonial New England. The result is bold, layered, and deeply distinctive. Its higher proof gives structure and intensity, while the profile evokes maritime character, coastal resilience, and the seafaring history of ports from Mystic to Newport and Boston. Elegant yet assertive, it is equally suited to a chilled martini or a polished summer cocktail hour.
Unlike conventional gins made with neutral grain spirits, Southwick’s begins with a blend of barrel-aged and unaged rums, nodding to early gin production in coastal trading ports. In timber-framed outbuildings along New England shorelines, producers distilled wild botanicals with imported spirits, creating a drink shaped by maritime trade and local craft.
Building on this rare approach, Veritable applies fractional distillation, separating botanicals into three groups. Each is prepared, macerated, vapor-infused, and distilled individually in a custom copper pot still before blending into the final expression. More time-intensive than single-shot gin production, the process allows for greater precision, depth, and clarity.
Piney juniper remains bright and resinous; citrus is fresh and lifted; deeper spices and roots add structure and warmth. The botanical list draws from traditional Navy Strength ingredients alongside flora naturalized or traded in New England; juniper, green cardamom, allspice, dried orange and lemon peel, cinnamon, angelica root, and licorice root, resulting in a heritage North American flavor profile.
At 57% ABV, Southwick’s Navy Strength Gin is unapologetically full-bodied yet remarkably smooth - a crisp, dry and complex nose contrasted by a juicy, spice-driven palate. Built for classic cocktails or contemplative sipping, it reconnects modern drinkers to the lineage of high-seas spirits while delivering the strength and character expected of a true Navy expression.
“This isn’t about refreshing an old recipe for posterity,” says Finneas Pryor, Distiller and VP at Veritable Distillery. “Spirits have always been cultural and social. For us, it’s about bringing people to the table to share a well-made drink while knowing exactly what’s in it and how it was made, making informed choices on what they’re consuming. We value old-school techniques and ingredients because they’re honest. Spirits should be thoughtfully made without additives, falsities or misleading practices. It’s about enjoying good spirits with real ingredients in the company of those you love - that’s what Veritable is committed to.”
For warmer days, Veritable offers a sunnier counterpoint with Veritable Limoncello, a vibrant aperitif crafted with organic lemons that are carefully de-pithed to remove bitterness before a ten-week maceration. Though rooted in southern Italy, limoncello became woven into New England’s cultural fabric through generations of Italian-American families who carried the tradition of homemade citrus liqueurs across the Atlantic.
Made with only water, organic cane spirit, sugar, and lemon peel, Veritable’s version delivers bright citrus aromatics, candied lemon notes, and a velvety finish without cloying sweetness. Served chilled, over ice, or in a spritz, it is an effortless companion to yacht decks, garden dinners, and long summer evenings.
Beyond the bottles, Veritable welcomes guests to its Veritable Distillery Tasting Room for intimate weekend tastings and behind-the-scenes tours exploring sourcing, fermentation, distillation, and aging directly with the team. Private visits and curated group experiences offer a memorable addition to any coastal Connecticut itinerary.
For couples planning weddings and private celebrations, the distillery also offers bespoke cocktail consultations, allowing signature drinks to be created in partnership with the team and recreated at the event itself - a personalized touch that elevates any gathering.
At a time when many brands chase novelty, Veritable Distillery succeeds by doing something rarer: pairing authenticity with luxury, craftsmanship with transparency, and history with impeccable modern taste.
