3 Ways To Maintain The Classics In Sustainable Style

A classic collection and the notion of sustainable style do not always seem to mesh. Be advised that they do harmonize. Just because something has aged with time does not mean it lacks relevance. What is relevant in today’s eco-conscious world is the practice of taking care of what you enjoy, appreciate, and value.

Consider Your Vehicle

Your car is an extension of who you are and what you value. If you have a classic vehicle such as an El Camino, you are already riding in style and you surely want to keep it that way. Owning a vehicle that is no longer on the production line can prove challenging when it is time to source parts for repairs or upgrades. All is not lost, however, as you have options for sourcing part information through certified El Camino parts catalogs.

Once you have all your parts in place and your vehicle in good working order, you need to keep it clean and in good condition. Maintaining not only the parts and servicing of your vehicle will add to its longevity, but keeping it clean is life-extending, too. By routinely removing dust and debris from the interior, you reduce the stress on the filters and the system as a whole by eliminating the need for them to work harder. Regular wipe-downs of the insides allow you to inspect every surface and find any minor problems before they become major concerns.

Washing the outside of your car is just as important as taking care of the inside. By removing the dirt and dust, you take paint etching particles off the car and reduce the need for a paint job or clear coat touch-ups. Regularly washing the vehicle’s exterior also takes off any road chemicals that can cause rust and corrosion over time.

As you are choosing your car wash or cleaning materials, always do your due diligence to ensure you are selecting planet-friendly materials and supplies. Some products, such as vinegar are a win as they are inexpensive, easy to use, and easy on mother earth. Pair this cleaning supply with a reusable lint-free cloth, and you are set. Choose your car wash carefully by researching what chemicals or products they use and how they dispose of the runoff and chemicals.

Assess Your Wardrobe

Some trends come and go. Sometimes they cycle through social media with a head-spinning frequency. It can be fun to jump on the proverbial bandwagon and follow a trend, but it is not sustainable and certainly not environmentally friendly when you look at the state of fast fashion.

Instead of buying the newest item of clothing that you see in your feeds and inevitably looking like everyone else chasing the latest trend, be original. Open up your closet and start shopping there. Are there items of clothing that still fit and you like wearing but are in need of repair? If so, it is time to take them to your local seamstress. An alternative is to learn the sewing skills yourself.

Take Care of Your Body

At some point, you will become a classic. Only you can define when that will be, however. Do not let anyone else do that for you. Regardless, the body and mind tend to age. But, there are some important things you can do to take care of yourself and be well every day and at every stage of life.

  • Eat well - Pay attention to what you eat. Incorporate high-value ingredients that are loaded with beneficial vitamins and minerals. Read labels carefully and stick with minimally processed foods.

  • Hydrate - Drinking enough fluids, especially water, is important for all of your bodily functions, including your mind. Keep a bottle with you wherever you go to ensure you remember to drink.

  • Exercise - Move your body every day with intention and purpose. Increase the speed, tempo, or weights during your workouts for continued gains

  • Challenge Your Brain - Learn something new such as a different language or an instrument. Complete crossword puzzles and word challenges often to keep your brain challenged.

Being stylish, fashionable, and an icon in your own world is not mutually exclusive from wanting a financially savvy and sustainable lifestyle. In fact, they can go hand-in-hand when you put in the work to make it happen. By choosing to repair something instead of replacing it, you show what you value through your actions, and you can look great while doing it.
